  • Literature and Translation Converge at Darna Museum: Egypt Opens Its Doors to India through the Language of Poetry

At 6:30 PM on Wednesday, April 23, Cairo will shimmer with the cultural spirit of India and the music of its letters, as Darna Museum , founded by artist, critic, and novelist Abdel Razek Okasha , hosts the inaugural session of the Afro-Asian Literary Forum . This unique cultural evening brings together writers and translators from Egypt and India in an exceptional intellectual gathering on the banks of the Nile—a celebration of literature that transcends borders. Ashraf Aboul-Yazid , poet, writer, and Editor-in-Chief of The Silk Road Today , Secretary General of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ), and coordinator of the forum, announced that the evening will begin with a scholarly session dedicated to the theme of Arabic-Malayalam literary translation. This academic panel will feature three distinguished Assistant Professors and Research Supervisors from the Department of Arabic, Farook College , University of Calicut, Kerala: Dr. Abbas K. P. , presenting his paper “Challenges in Translating Poetry” , will discuss the aesthetic and stylistic complexities involved in transferring poetic beauty across languages. Dr. Abdul Jaleel M. , in his study “Translatability of Culture in Literary Translation – Arabic-Indian Texts as a Model” , will examine the cultural intricacies and transformations inherent in literary translation. Dr. Muhammed Abid U. P. , through his paper “Literary Translation from Arabic to Malayalam: An Overview” , will offer a comprehensive historical account of this rich linguistic exchange, addressing key achievements and ongoing challenges. Dr. Sabeena K. will be honored for translating the poetry collection "The Memory of Silence" into Malayalam, marking a significant milestone in cultural and poetic dialogue. Abdel Razek Okasha will be recognized for establishing Darna Museum and his role in building lasting cultural bridges across the world. The second session of the evening will celebrate the official launch of the Malayalam translation of "Memory of Silence" , a selected poetry collection by Ashraf Aboul-Yazid , translated by academic Dr. Sabeena K. This marks Aboul-Yazid’s second book to be published in Malayalam, following the earlier translation of his novel "Back Garden" , rendered into Malayalam by Dr. Abdul Majeed and Dr. Mansoor Ameen , faculty members at the University of Calicut and MES College, Mampad, respectively. Malayalam , spoken by over 40 million people globally—primarily in Kerala, the Lakshadweep Islands, and among diaspora communities in the Gulf, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and the United States—has proven to be a vibrant medium for Arabic literature. Ashraf Aboul-Yazid has visited Kerala several times, attending the launch of his translated works and participating in the defense of the PhD dissertation "The Poetics of Narrative in the Novels of Ashraf Aboul-Yazid" , authored by Dr. Sabeena K. and supervised by Prof. Muhiyuddin Kuti A. P. , former Head of the Arabic Department, University of Calicut. A heartfelt message from Dr. Sabeena K. will be delivered on her behalf by her husband, Dr. Abbas K. P. , in a touching gesture that highlights the personal and academic bonds behind this cultural exchange. "Memory of Silence" is published by Dar Al-Nasher , represented by its founder, poet Magdy Aboul-Kheir, Egypt, as part of the Silk Road Creativity Series , which has also published The Poetics of Narrative in the Novels of Ashraf Aboul-Yazid , along with global literary projects such as eight short Korean novels, a poetry collection by Hemant Divate , and the multi-volume Silk Road Anthology Series including: Asia Sings, Mediterranean Waves, Ancient Egyptians, Modern Poets, Arabian Nights, World Poems and Nano Poems for Africa This body of work features contributions from over 150 writers representing more than 50 countries, reinforcing the series' global scope and literary richness. Safaa El Beily , celebrated playwright and critic, for her profound influence on the Egyptian and Arab literary scenes. Omar Hazein , recently elected Vice President of the Cairo Atelier, for his distinguished literary and cultural achievements. This is the second and only other literary prize in Europe and the world (besides the Czech prize of the same name in Prague, awarded by the “Franz Kafka Society” and the City of Prague) that bears the name of the great European writer Franz Kafka. It was established in 2011 in Italy to honor the literary and moral legacy of Franz Kafka (Prague 1883 – Kierling/Vienna 1924). The award was initiated by the Committee for the Second Italian Humanism. The idea for launching the Italian National Prize "Franz Kafka" was proposed by the renowned Italian cultural figure, writer, university professor, and Kafka scholar Rita Mascialino (https://www.ritamascialino.com/cms/). The award is presented in three categories: 1. For a lifetime achievement – for an entire career, body of work, and literary output in the spirit of Franz Kafka’s literary work and poetics; 2. For drawing – in any technique, reflecting the spirit and style of Franz Kafka (as Kafka himself was a persistent sketcher, often drawing in the margins of his manuscripts); 3. For painting – for the best painting of Franz Kafka or a visual motif inspired by his work. Previous laureates include renowned Italian and European writers, painters, academics, literary and art critics, and theorists. Eligibility is open to all writers from all countries, cultures, and languages worldwide. However, submissions and documentation must be exclusively in Italian. New Drama Explores Spirituality, Science, and Visionary Conversations in a Virtual Reality Setting Prodigy Published is proud to announce the release of the new bilingual edition of URANTIA , a groundbreaking drama written by Zlatan Demirović. The play is now available in both BCS (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian) and English. Inspired by the innovative work of Dr. Ana Stjelja, whose unique drama Tesla with Mask  explores the intersection of time and space, URANTIA  takes the exploration further. The “Tall Whites,” an extraterrestrial species, serve as the audience and participants in a profound discussion on humanity’s freedom, blending science, spirituality, and visionary insight. Zlatan Demirović, drawing from Ana Stjelja’s idea of juxtaposing two great visionaries – Nikola Tesla and Elon Musk – has created a narrative that stretches the limits of creativity and imagination. URANTIA  brings together these towering figures in a metaphysical dialogue, offering deep reflections on human existence, technology, and the evolution of consciousness. The play is now available for free reading in an online flip-book format, providing easy access to the content for those curious to dive into this thought-provoking narrative. • Silvana Dimitrievska: This is Not a Game (for Woman Scream Festival)

This is not a game, yet the little hands 'playing in the kitchen' a game called 'How to wash the dishes perfectly,' to remain only pure words said in a sign of approval. This is not a game, yet the thin fingers 'play through the house', they place the beds, clean the items, wipe the windows with hope that they will see through them new landscapes filled with spring. Cold toes draw a heart on the glass, and then emit a warm sigh, maybe the room will be filled with life. This is not a game, yet, little hands cover their eyes, they stitch their mouths. Not to look, not listen, not to speak. Their game is silent and speechless, In a world that shouts loudly: freedom and justice. Silvana Dimitrievska is a graduate philologist and journalist. She writes poetry, prose, haiku, essays, and literary reviews. She has won prestigious national and international awards. For her first poetry book, she won the prestigious National Award for Unpublished Poetry Collection 'Aco Karamanov'. In 2023 she was named one of the laureates of the prestigious World Poetry Award 'Naji Naaman' and acquired the title of honorary member of the Academy of Culture of the same name in LebanonFrom the Academy of Philosophical Arts and Science from Italy, she has won an international academic award for contemporary art Lucius Anaeus Seneca for 2024.

This is the same category that insistently interviews the unfortunate during an earthquake, without suffering, as a counterpart, in the street, the application to the muzzle of a copious enteroclysm, being able to reason with someone who lives on the number of typefaces he pounds in the press room considering human dignity out of fashion, is like making Cicciolina drive a pump-truck. Will anyone ever be able to explain to a cultural trader living in a caricature market publishing, victim of the hypertrophy of supply of articles without demand, that independence and truth do not fit into the lexicon of horticulture, The bold Houdinis of the utilitarian neo-sophistication with the collapse of the mechanisms of hyper-capitalist publishing, will end up being, finally, in their underwear, demolished by the contempt of having been a ‘journalist’. OUT OF ISCHEMS Try, once in your life, to stop living outside each ischeme, without constant ink interruptions to the vein’s phoneme, so that the western crisis becomes an occipital crisis, with the saving of ants increase the consumption of cicadas. As you stopped reading, at least stop writing ‘public’ that doesn't exist and forces us to sell books like vacuum cleaners, Porta a Porta, where Novi Aldi goes on Vespa and returns Bompiani, after abandoning Theseus' ship, in whiff of hurricanes. This is the century, or the millennium, of the professional artist not knowing how to do anything, you are content to remain a figurehead, among the various shrewd actors and actresses of the publishing market willing to give their children to a rom in exchange for an inch of shelf space in the prestigious Feltrinelli bookshop in your town you don't want to stop living out of ischems, c'aggia fa? THE BARBARIAN AND THE PRINCESS To you who observe with your bistro eyes my discontents you defuse me with a smile, you neutralise me with a love as enduring as a Compact Fluorescent Lamp, becoming aeriform, neon, argon, krypton, maybe it's the krypton that deactivates my Superman cravings, climbing up my spine with catlike paws, dissuading me from gobbling, from drinking, from brawling, from stopping writing. Princeza romana, eu sou seu bárbaro, i keep wearing white tank tops in my black underwear not washing the dishes, banging on the keys, better than washing the keys and banging on the dishes, i kidnapped you on a raid on the coasts of Gaeta, enchanted by you, late-modern Circe, capable of turning pigs into men, pig's heart is equal to the human heart, you alone have understood this, in twenty years, with your insulinous carefreeness, with your insecurities, with your premenstrual breakdowns, with your questioning face, always capable of disconcerting me, square mime destined to go bald, without replacing me. Princeza romana, eu sou seu bárbaro, yet without being able to dedicate Odi barbare to you, i am not equipped to hate anyone, or to mix metres, - what shall we do, half a metre?- better my aptitude for duelling, Ro rocamboling, half Cyrano de Bergerac and half Socrates, i'm convinced that you prefer me whole, and long-life, not having the ambition of the modern woman to turn her man into an asshole. AT THE TAVERN OF SOLID LOVE My little love, solid, you, today, fell and i was not there to support you, with my aggressive biceps of a barbarian from the northern forests, my face painted blue, lying in the spasmodic berserksgangr of drinking from the skulls of the vanquished, it all begins with a trembling, chattering of teeth and a feeling of cold, immense rage and a desire to assault the enemy. My little love, fragile, you, today, fell, and there is a tavern behind our house, all brianzola, your new world, there is a tavern that serves a hundred and a hundred types of risotto to spread on your wounds and on your skinned knees, where i, imperative man, can still interpret every amber darkness in your wise child's eyes, manipulating the kaleidoscope of your irises, voluntarily uncovering my flank to the dagger of your arctic lucidity. If not a tavern, our love, resembles us: we eat and live, remunerating each other, victories and defeats, hôtellerie, we bustle and eat, until the innkeeper Godan, the god of stubborn ‘poets’, slams a mug of mead on the table invite us to dance at Walhalla, Mocambo a contrario, dance far away, to the end of the worlds, you will return to the simple freshness of your sea, you wandering caetan siren of sand, and to me the fog-damp earth of the valley without ascents or descents will not weigh on my zinc. In the ancient taverns of solid love continue to mix fog and sea-water, outside thunderstorms, lightning and thunder, liquefied by the cloudburst everything is drying out, and we, we eat and live, we bustle and eat, sheltered, in our reserve of happiness, aware that, hovering in the air, in the long run, the misty ice crystals will flow into the sea. THE INHERITANCE On a bourgeois family of honourable society a surprising inheritance happened, between head and neck, an old aunt whose death everyone, including me, secretly cheered on dying she left her nephews money, flats and jewellery in safe, and the nephews, cleverly, far from getting into a toast started to fight. The grandchildren with the keys to the flat got the idea to retrieve the jewels with a record worthy of Mennea, without taking into account the insignificant circumstance of having acted without notifying the notary and the entire cousinhood. Reacts ferventerly the wife of the Carate chrome-worker, busy settling his bankruptcy in instalments: he is a thief who fucks three spoons he is a saint who does not pay his workers severance pay. Responds, proudly, the brother of the new Arsenii, my brothers left her cheque books, and all, indignant, entrench themselves behind obstruction in deciding which apartment each will be assigned. The cousins from Veneto, accustomed to the plateau, Want, at all costs, the five flats in Bassano; the cousins from Monza do not agree: they are fearful that the rented houses in Brianza conceal defaulters. How will it end? Negotiations begin face to face worthy of the Treaty of Cateau-Cambrésis, everyone claims muggings andplots scams as if they were guests at Maria De Filippi's. The only black misfortune is my situation, my mother, granddaughter like everyone else, vacca malora, still hasn't noticed her aunt's death! Ivan Pozzoni was born in Monza in 1976. • Su Yun: Three Poems

Illustration: AI Rain Window Raindrops, escaping the wipers Crystalize my window Through this crystalline veil I divine my destined path Rising from the pondside path to the distance Floating from the lifted wheat stalks to the village Where churches and ancient houses stand Where chimes echo and rain-kissed windows glisten Starting from inside the house Opening rain-drenched windows one by one My footsteps unlike droplets from branches Cannot create ripples in puddles My silhouette unlike roadside grass Cannot embrace the rain so wholly Yet I long to push open one more rain window Stepping into a new world. Dream of Journey Even when awakened I still sway within the carriage Moments ago We journeyed away from our destination No transition from asphalt to soil No final tree before the turn Only distant wild grass and patchwork paths And the simplest things in the countryside Yellow wheat, dry channels, and sycamore trees Mountains not chosen, rivers not included My heart finds peace on this journey With a trustworthy driver and myself We have a destined stop Indeed, we pause in a new village street Through the shopfronts, I see clearly Banquets of strangers under the lights Meeting friends from my hometown In an instant We begin our return, I guard time closely Bidding farewell to friends, offering banquet wishes And the ordinary fields along the way Sparkling before my wandering eyes I strive to memorize all I see As it swiftly fades into distance I've always known I'm dreaming Walking an endless road Yet filled with familiar matter Until I open my eyes, beginning to miss All that I left behind there Never to return but emerges hazily. Mountain Tears Behold the unwithered Not clinging to life through affliction But growing true to their nature Should winds assail the slopes They stand, unwavering shields Observe the withered Not untimely perished But exiting with rhythmic grace Should rains pierce the soil They face fragmentation fearlessly Perhaps a desiccated tree's millennia-old lament Swallows the mountain's verdant stoicism Perhaps a lone grassroots future ember Ignites the ground's seasonal unfurling Ultimately, your chiseled facade Erodes, bearing your mournful whispers Your preserved tears No longer seek recompense For the droplets shed adorning trees and igniting grass Su Yun , Whose real name is Chen Ruizhe, he is a 16-year-old poet. He is the member of the Chinese Poetry Society. His works have been published in more than ten countries, including the poetry collections "Spreading All Things" and "Wise Language Philosophy" in China, and the poetry collection "WITH ECSTASY OF MUSING IN TRANQUILITY" in India.
